I've fallen and broke my butt

So some of you know that I injured myself, but have wondered what and how. Let's just say I had my America's Funniest Home Video moment but there were no cameras rolling.

I was doing my workout on our pull up bar. I was doing a pull up and lifting my knees up to work my abs. While I was pulled up and my knees were up, the connector on the bar broke. Since my legs were up in front of me, I fell straight down. I landed on the tile right on my behind. I did not break my tailbone but injured the part of the spine right above it. (I know you are picturing this in your head. You are laughing and cringing at the same time.) But the part I find funny is I was still gripping the bar when I landed. I did not realize it came with me.

I still cannot bend, climb stairs or workout that area without pain. So when I cannot bend over, RyLeigh ask if my butt is still broke.

Another School Year

For the first time all four kids are in school. It has been a smooth transition and everyone for the most part is enjoying their year.

Our day starts at 6 am and they are all out of the house by 6:30 a.m. The early mornings have led me to be a 2 cup black coffee drinker. Even after eight hours of sleep, I am not a morning person. They arrive home usually around 4:45 p.m. So it makes for a long day.

I am either going with them to sub or have a client for my business. I have also starting writing a study on my work blog (www.lessmessnstress.blogspot.com). So between work and the house, I stay busy.

Cage is in high school. He is having to realize every grade now matters. He hopes to go college in Australia. So he knows being top of his class is important. Motivation is still required at times because he is a teenage boy who likes girls and can get distracted. He started the year with straight A's but has a long road the next four years. They have made graduating distinguished even harder. The next four years he will have four years of math, science, English and history. He will have three years of Spanish. He will have to have a minimum of 12 college hours plus all the electives required. Right now he is taking extra classes and is ahead of the game. But the most excited thing is his own blog he has started and he is leading children's worship again. He has his teenage moments, but he is a good kid.

Colton is still my Colton. He still makes me laugh. He is very much a ten year old boy and his daddy's son. He has no sense of style and usually has to change two to three times before mom will let him out of the house. He loves hanging out with his Papaw. They watch John Wayne movies and go to the farm. Amazingly he has kept the same the girlfriend this year. Last year I think he went from girl to girl. He continues to be my straight A student and excelling very well. He hangs out in the school library until it is time to leave. The boy loves to read. He has started writing his own book about his Colton world. If you know Colton, you know what I am talking about. At times he can be in the room, but in his mind he is some where far away and in a happy place. He is also writing down things he thinks is funny about his parents. He is getting his material to be a comedian later on in life (thanks Tim Hawkins).

Gracie Mae is someone much older in her little body. After testing last year, we decided to let her skip second grade and go straight to third. We hoped it would be more of a challenge. She is breezing right through it. Even on your first benchmark she got the highest score in her class. We do not know what we are going to do with her. Of course being that smart comes with consequences, she tends to forget she is only seven. Between her smarts and arguing skills, I could see her as a lawyer. She does not back down. (We are having to work on that one with mom and dad.) Luckily her smile with those dimples can still light up a room. She still loves to read her bible and would love to know your favorite bible story so she can read it.

RyLeigh K is growing up, but does not want to grow up. She has decided she wants to stay mama's baby. This is her first year in school. She has been very shy but is starting to warm up which is probably why she got Star Student the first six weeks. We are still waiting for the note because she says. "what the crap or awww crap." She has enjoyed having her Sarah back close. Instead of calling Sarah her second mom, she calls her step mom. Again we are waiting for questions on that one. It will make for great break room discussions for the teachers. Other than that she is still RyLeigh. She is sneaky and loves to play practical jokes on her family. The scary thing is how good she is at it. She keeps us laughing especially when she takes down her brothers.

Sam is doing, well not the same, but not better. We still do not know what caused his weakness. The power chair helps a lot, but because of the way he sits in it he has to be careful not to get sores. So he uses his manual chair which has it own complications. So we just take it day by day and most importantly pray that he does not get either flu.

So that is the latest in the Pipes household. It is as crazy and fun as ever.

Do we try to have a relationship with God or do we choose to have one?

I was having a conversation today and heard the person say "I am trying to spend more time with God." I sat there for a minute and realized I have heard a lot of people say I am trying to spend time with God, Iam trying to exersise, I am trying to take better care of my home. I asked myself, "Why are we trying? Is it not a choice we make?"
Would you tell your boss that you are trying to show up for work or trying to do your work? As a stay at home mom, are you trying to remember to feed and change baby? Would you let your child tell you he is trying to obey and listen to you? Or that he is working on it? Would you let him tell his teacher he is going to try and do his work everyday? Of course we would not try to do those things. We choose to do them. Some days we may choose not to do them. Our children know they have a choice and face consequences if they choose incorrectly.
So why is our relationship with Christ any different? Our physical health? Is it not a choice everyday to spend time with God? Maybe it is time to change the words to "I will choose" instead of "I will try."When we wake up, we choose to start our day with prayer or the morning news. We choose to read God's word or Facebook status updates first. And those choices influences all our other choices: joy or sorrow, trust or worry, forgiveness or guilt, a servant or selfish heart, peace or stress, kindness or rudeness, patience or anger.
Is David not an example? When he was hiding in a cave, mourning a loss of a child, celebrating a victory over the Philistines, did he not make choice? He made the choice to cry out to God and to worship God.
We cannot keep trying or say we will work on it. Everyday we are choosing. Somedays we may not make the right choice, but the next day we can. I am not going to use the excuse "I am trying" anymore. Everyday I am making a choice. I want to be like David and choose my God. I will write the words, "What will you choose?" next to my bed, on the bathroom mirror and on the kitchen fridge. And I hope I answer the question correctly everyday.
You have been and will be making choices everyday. What choice are you going to make today: God or the world?

(Share your thoughts and your struggles. Share your opinion.)

"How lovely is your dwelling place, O Lord Almighty! My soul yearns, even faints, for the courts of the Lord; my heart and flesh cry out for the living God." Psalm 84:1-2

Happy Mother's Day Mom!!

(sing to the tune of the Brady Bunch theme song)

Here is story of lovely lady
who was bringing up 3 very lovely kids.

All of them had turning gray like their mother.
The youngest one in curls.

Here's a story of man named Jimmy
Who was the father of the 3 lovely kids.
They were a family living all together
till the kids left home.

Then one day this lady had grandkids.
And she knew it was much more than a hunch.
That this group was really all her family.
And they were a dysfunctional Bunch.

A Dysfunctional bunch, a dysfunctional bunch
That's the way we came the Dysfunctional bunch.
